How to play

Surround the opposing queen on all six sides. Bugs of either colour count.

  1. On your turn, place a new bug or move a bug already in play.
  2. The first tile goes on the highlighted hex; the second player places beside it. Later placements must touch your colour and cannot touch the opposing colour. A beetle on top determines a stack’s colour.
  3. Place your queen by your fourth turn. Your bugs cannot move before she is placed.
  4. Keep one connected hive at every moment. Sliding bugs must fit through gaps and stay in contact with the hive.
  5. Only the top bug in a stack can move. Pass only when no legal placement or move exists.

Both queens surrounded at once, or the same position three times, is a draw. Queens are allowed on the opening turn. Expansion choices add one of each enabled bug to both reserves.

Pillbug carry: select your Pillbug (or a Mosquito touching one), choose Carry a bug, select a highlighted neighbor, then its destination. A piece just moved cannot be carried. A carried piece is stunned for the next turn; stacked bugs and pieces holding the hive together cannot be carried.
